Wade: Astros not interested in Glavine
Astros general manager Ed Wade said Wednesday the club doesn’t have any interest in signing veteran lefthander Tom Glavine, who was released by the Atlanta Braves earlier in the day.
Glavine, a 305-game winner, signed a $1 million contract with the Braves in February and he would have received another $1 million when he was added to the 25-man roster.
“Probably not,” Wade said when asked if the Astros had interest in Glavine. “We think at this point if the five guys we have continue to throw well, and plus we’ve got (Brandon) Backe and (Russ) Ortiz in the bullpen and we’ve got (Bud) Norris and (Yorman) Bazardo throwing very well at Triple-A. I doubt we would have any interest in that regard.”
The five pitchers currently in the Astros’ rotation are Roy Oswalt, Wandy Rodriguez, Brian Moehler, Mike Hampton and Felipe Paulino.
