Wade: Astros not interested in Glavine

Astros general manager Ed Wade said Wednesday the club doesn’t have any interest in signing veteran lefthander Tom Glavine, who was released by the Atlanta Braves earlier in the day.

Glavine, a 305-game winner, signed a $1 million contract with the Braves in February and he would have received another $1 million when he was added to the 25-man roster.

“Probably not,” Wade said when asked if the Astros had interest in Glavine. “We think at this point if the five guys we have continue to throw well, and plus we’ve got (Brandon) Backe and (Russ) Ortiz in the bullpen and we’ve got (Bud) Norris and (Yorman) Bazardo throwing very well at Triple-A. I doubt we would have any interest in that regard.”

The five pitchers currently in the Astros’ rotation are Roy Oswalt, Wandy Rodriguez, Brian Moehler, Mike Hampton and Felipe Paulino.

I agree, Tom Glavin would be another “been there done that” pitcher. BUT……Miggy wants to stay here! Did ya

I figured the White Sox would make a push for Glavine since they’ve been in the market for starting pitching lately.

I’m with you b2too! Miggy is a huge asset to this team!! No matter how well we are or are not playing at times, Miggy is always sure to put a smile on your face, and I’ve never seen him give less than 100%! We need that kind of spirit and dedication both on the field and in the dugout. I HOPE YOU’RE LISTENING DRAYTON!!!!!!!

“Probably not…I doubt ….” These don’t sound entirely like “definitely not, no way” to me. Remember how many times Wade said we weren’t after Pudge?

With his recent hitting spree, Miggy’s about as valuable as he can get, trade-wise. But I agree – if the man wants to stay in Houston, don’t trade him. And DO NOT trade Pence!

I realize that Valverde is hurt, but if he comes back strong, does he have any trade worth?

The last thing the Astros need to do is add another pitcher to the bullpen. They need to put Brandon Backe back in the starting rotation.

I mean can we get any young talent from another team…not a pitcher…

Brian- great job on the video chat. It was a good way to “get to know ya” if you will.

What about Peavy… Why hasn’t ed wade gone after him… Peavy will make $11 million in 2009. The new money kicks in in 2010, when he’ll make $15 million. He’ll earn $16 million in 2011 and $17 million in 2012.
