Some early Astros tidbits

The Astros are set to play the Braves at 12:05 p.m. Central at Disney World. Here are some tidbits collected from a pre-game chat with manager Brad Mills:

  • Jason Bourgeois is available to play for the first time since injuring his right hamstring while hitting a home run in Wednesday’s intrasquad game. Jeff Keppinger is still nursing a sore wrist, but wasn’t scheduled to make the trip Sunday to play the Braves.
  • Felipe Paulino, who started in a “B” game a few days ago in Lakeland, will pitch in the same game Wednesday as Wandy Rodriguez. The lefty will start and pitch three innings, and Paulino will “piggyback” him, meaning he’ll throw the next three innings against the Marlins. Mills said Wesley Wright will likely start one of the split-squad games scheduled for next week.”He’s definitely going to get his innings pitch, but we’re going to wait and see how it comes along,” Mills said of Wright. “He was definitely a bright spot in the way the ball was coming out of his hands yesterday.”
  • Mills said he’d like his pitchers to cut down on the walks and had a discussion Saturday morning with pitching coach Brad Arnsberg about that topic. Astros pitchers walked 11 batters Friday against the Tigers and eight more in Saturday’s win over the Nationals.”There were some against Detroit that definitely is a concern, [Saturday] not as much,” Mills said. “Roy [Oswalt] had three and we’re trying to get him in his first outing throwing the ball well and we’re more concerned about that. Arnie and I were talking about that. There are some of them that have to be cleaned up, there’s no doubt about it. Roy’s not a concern. He was throwing the ball very well.”
