Biggest Astros surprise in 2011?

Wouldn’t it be fun if the Astros came home Tuesday in first place in the National League Central? OK, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Yes, the Astros entered Thursday only two games out of first, but they are 7-11 and also in last place in what so far has proven to be a mediocre division.

The good news for the Astros is they have a bunch of game against divisional opponents on the near horizon. They Astros were 45-33 against the NL Central last year, winning the season series from every team except the division champion Reds (5-10).

Beginning Friday in Milwaukee, the Astros play 18 consecutive games against division opponents and will see every team in the division in that stretch except the Cubs, whom they’ve already faced.

So through 18 games, what’s the biggest surprise of the Astros 2011 season?

Quintero deserves to be in this list too, IMHO… but Towles wins it. Last year no one would’ve made a peep if we’d traded him for a single-A journeyman.
